Great clarity of thought

I liked this book for its simple use of language, it's point blank no nonsense approach to enlightenment, and also for its great clarity of thought. It was an all inclusive kind of book. It starts out with the authors personal story of seeking and his eventual awakening, then it moves on to go in-depth into the nitty grittys of ego and the true Self. The later chapters discuss moving beyond various distractions which can occur on a spiritual path, and there is also a couple of chapters in question and answer format, which helped the clarity furthur. The main theme of the book is about what the author calls "attentive presence" which is similar to living in the now, but the way he puts this across makes it almost like a "science of mind and Spirit" which made it very exact and really helpful indeed.

At one with sloppiness

The author appears to be at One with the Absolute Self.

However, I would have thought that his Ever-Presence would have alerted him to the poor grammar and poor punctuation in his text. Maybe he could not afford the services of a proof-reader, having sacrificed the material world for a world where such material details are not important.

His narrations are well worth reading, nonetheless, because he is able to describe the basic experience of being in the present, however long he may be able to experience it. As with all of us seeking to know One's true Self, it is our sanskara that needs changing, and he has related his way of changing his sanskara (& therefore his karma), which is a way that is far simpler than what many established and traditional teachings describe in their esoteric and convoluted procedures and methods.

All things being relative (not equal) in our experience of the Universe's evolution in this regard, we are born into bodies and circumstances that determine how each of our individually unique experiences begins. As he repeatedly exhorts those who might be sincere in their attempts, "let the journey begin!"

His descriptions of being at One seems to revolve around what could be described in the Mahayana Buddhist sources as being "jnana", which is non-conceptualising or non-dual awareness. Very little of the other mental states or functions are described.

My perceptions of his accounts are that he is able to maintain his Universal Presence to some degree, because most of us are able to experience at times in our lives what he describes.

I took away one star for the rating because of repeated mistakes in his punctuation. I would recommend that he read "Eat, Shoots, & Leaves" by Lynne Truss [ISBN-13: 978-0007329069 ] before embarking on relating his novel experience again next time.

good challenge for higher-level (14) PCs

Our home games usually don't get higher than 9-10th level, so when we wanted to try out higher levels, we figured it would be a good idea to utilize a pre-written module.

Tomb of the Iron Medusa is a great mix of combat encounters (a variety of opponents and environments that make PCs really consider strategy) and puzzles/traps which are very cleverly designed (and fit many of the larger themes of the module).

The biggest detraction for this module is actually its strong link to the Pathfinder Golarian setting, as much of the explanation and background is based around specific regional histories and rivalries. This is great if your group is strongly invested in Pathfinder Society, but it's a bit of a challenge for a group that's unfamiliar with Golarion (and tough to port the module into another setting quickly).

Mattt Thompson is the creator & maintainer of AFNetworking and other popular open-source projects, including Postgres.app, Induction, Helios, and Nomad. Previously, Mattt has worked as Mobile Lead at Heroku, an iPhone & iPad Developer at Gowalla, and a Rails and Front-End Engineer at Cerego. His work has taken him across the United States and around the world, to speak at conferences and meetups about topics in Objective-C, Ruby, Javascript, web development, design, linguistics, and philosophy. Mattt holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosphy and Linguistics from Carnegie Mellon University.

Masterful Content, Poor Presentation

The website NSHipster is a delight to read. Mattt Thompson discusses Objective-C internals in a fun, trendy, and very readable style.

As soon as I saw that there was a book, I bought it. Straightaway, no questions. I knew I wanted to own it, and was excited to read it.

What I found inside disappointed me. The text is full of simple grammatical mistakes and omissions. One proofread would easily yield impressive results on this manuscript. Sentences are incomplete, words are left out, newlines are unnecessarily inserted, and some tables lack the context to be properly interpreted.

The content, on the other hand, is great. I've learned a lot and enjoyed the writing style, just like on the website. ("Just like the movie!")

Five stars for content and concept, but if there were a separate scale for the copy editing, this first edition would achieve only 1 star on it. I hope a later edition will address my gripes.

Fantastic Content

From what I've been able to read, this is an informative book about Objective-C.

HOWEVER, I will advise you to avoid buying the Kindle eBook version because the code and table formatting is aggravating. Spend the extra money and buy the print version. Or, ignore my advice and wind up buying both because you are too frustrated with the Kindle version as I have.

Terrible text formatting

I've bought a digital copy. It has a really terrible text formatting. It's very sad. I hope the author will correct a digital copy.
