gorgeous book with four charming stories about a little polar bear, Lars

This is a beautiful, delightfully illustrated book containing four well-written adventure stories in which a little polar bear embarks on a new adventure, makes new friends, and eventually finds his way back home. The book is about adventure, friendship, and family. It's very sweet. The stories are fairly substantive -- just about right to read to a four or five year old. I think they're a little too complicated for younger children. The stories are not written for true beginning readers, but are suitable for 7-8 year olds to read.

The first story is about Lars, a little polar bear, who goes out on a trip with his father, gets lost, and ends up on a tropical island, where he makes friends with a hippo and other island inhabitants. In the second story, Lars climbs onto a cargo ship, ends up in a port city, and befriends a harbor cat who helps him hitch a ride back to the Arctic. In the third story, Lars is again en route to a large city. He befriends a walrus, and the two animals make their way back to the Arctic. In the fourth story, Lars becomes friends with an Arctic hare. The pair finds its way to an Arctic research station and falls into a room full of scientific equipment. They eventually escape the research station and make their way back home.

These stories are interesting, a little offbeat, sweet, and fun to read. I highly recommend this book as a nice addition to your library.

Charming stories about Lars, the little polar bear

"The Adventures of Little Polar Bear" contains four stories about Lars, the little polar bear cub who lives with his parents at the North Pole. Lars is a precocious bear and tends to find himself straying far from home, and going off on adventures, only to find his way home again at the end. This collection contains four tales, i.e. Little Polar Bear [where Lars gets separated from his dad and end up in the tropics], Ahoy There,Little Polar Bear [Lars accidentally gets caught in a fishing net and journeys aboard a trawler], Little Polar Bear Finds a Friend [Lars meets a brown bear cub, Bea, and the two become good friends], and Little Polar Bear and the Brave Little Hare [Lars rescues a young hare, and when Lars ends up in a pickle, it's up to Hugo the hare to help him in turn].

The stories make for great reading aloud, and the full-color illustrations enhance the story. Excellent reading choice for ages 4-8.

You've probably heard the saying "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear". This body of work is currently the most important in my trading life to date. If you're an experienced trader, then you'll probably eventually come to the realization like I have that moving from system to system, Course to course, technique to technique, mentor to mentor, book to book eventually becomes a futile exercise. The answer and solution to whatever you are looking for is within. The 'holy grail' and key trading indicator is YOU. This book will show you the door to access the answers and resources within. If you have a methodology you believe in, and can prove to yourself works, the next step to consistent profitably is to examine the contents of this book. I read this book after years of trading to see if i could find a different way to approach the markets. I have tried many systems and different types of analysis. In the end this book put my thoughts in the right place to make trades and be confident in my decisions. It takes you to a place in your mind and brain that you normally don't explore. The book teaches you the best way to practice your process to the markets.I highly recommend this book to anyone starting or considering to trade the markets.

A More Objective Review

Considering the only other review for this book currently available, I felt compelled to write a review that is actually about the book, not the subject of the book. A Harvard professor deserves at least that. Perry Miller's classic introduction to the New England Puritans remains an essential text for anyone seeking to understand the complexities of a much maligned and often misunderstood religious movement. An understanding of the New England Puritans is absolutely essential to an understanding of American History and American society. Miller does not espouse the doctrines of Puritanism; he provides a concise and helpful historical background and then guides the reader through some representative samples of their writing. This is not a book designed to convert someone to Puritanism. A sidenote: The Puritans referred to in this book have not existed for centuries, so I assure you no reviewer of this book actually left the Puritanism described in this book.

For those wondering what exactly the Liberty Tuning is

Harvey Reid has long been one of my favorite folk or fingerstyle guitarists and folk singers. He is a true master of all kinds of stringed instruments like the guitar, banjo, 12-string, even the autoharp. I've seen him in concert twice and first bought a CD of his in the mid 80's. Now this Liberty thing is a cool system for quickly altering the guitar with a capo (well a special partial capo on only 3 strings) and teaching someone to be able to play the guitar with only two fretting fingers. I don't know if it's obvious or not but this is just a vastly easier way to play chords then having to use 3 or 4 fingers that most chords require. So you're thinking this could be very limiting, as most other re-tunings turn out to be, but Reid has recorded a few very accomplished albums showing plenty of sophisticated fingerstyle playing in various keys all on the same Liberty tuning. Essentially all the chords you would ever really need to play in most keys can be played with only the two fingers.

Obviously, the Liberty chord fingerings are completely different from standard chords and notation, which is what you really need the book for - Reid has worked out all the chords. So if you want to play the guitar in the standard way eventually, you will have to re-learn everything. I don't think that should put anyone off, as that's true of any simpler instrument, like if you start on a ukulele, all the chords are completely different from a guitar. You can play just about anything having chords as long as you have a Liberty chord table. But Mr Reid also as written a number of books with songs and tunes that work well with the system. I would probably say it's well worth it to buy a book or two along with the capo when getting into the system.

The other cool thing is that kids don't have to reach as far up the neck of the guitar - all fingering is done after the capo at the 4th fret so its easy to reach. So use a regular old guitar and you don't have to buy a special small kid's guitar that they will never want to play when they outgrow it.

If you're curious - here's HOW TO TUNE A GUITAR TO THE LIBERTY TUNING: As stated, you need one of Mr. Reid's partial capos that cleverly barre off 3 and only 3 strings. Starting with the standard tuning EADGBE, first just re-tune the B string up to C. Then put the partial capo on the neck at the 4th fret, across the D, G, B (now C) strings.

And no, any regular capo that I've ever seen will not work, as you are barring off strings in the center and leaving the low and high strings alone.

Actually I guess there is an alternate Liberty tuning, and other tunings, that barre off 4 strings or something, and these Flip 34 capos can be flipped over to barre off 4 strings. The world of partial capos is deeper than just the Liberty method, but that's a whole other story.

A totally new, affordable system that will efficiently expand your guitar repertoire

Absolutely the way to go if you aren't willing or able to devote long hours of study and practice to becoming a proficient guitar player! I am an advanced intermediate (30+ years) player, and am always willing to explorer new ways to make music. This method is an efficient and achievable way to play many popular and traditional songs using a partial capo. It is like shorthand for the fretboard, and will increase your playing enjoyment exponentially in proportion to the minimal time you devote to it. No additional musical knowledge or training necessary, other than familiarity with a guitar. Clearly explained and illustrated by Harvey Reid, who has been playing and providing guitar insights for over 40 years. Well worth the small cost, it is a self-contained and effective system.

About the Author
Jon M. Duff received his Ph.D. in art education from The Ohio State University after undergraduate and graduate study in technology at Purdue University. He then served on the faculty in Engineering Graphics at Ohio State and in Technical Graphics at Purdue. Professor Duff currently teaches a variety of courses at Arizona State University, including modeling, animation, illustration, and technical publishing. He is the author of over 70 technical papers and 17 texts on industrial graphics and has served as a consultant to education, industry, and government for over 30 years

A Classic

As computer-based modelling takes over this function, the fundamentals are in danger of being forgotten. This is a classic and remarkably thorough text on the subject. As someone who reads graphics as part of construction and prototype projects, I've found the book essential to understanding not only the views of parts, but how to see them in their three-dimensional functional aspect. If you ever have to make parts from scratch -- know what they do and how they fit -- this is the book to have on your reference shelf. It is also the basic source for design and even sketching techniques essential to making yourself understood in quick studies and discussions with others. Note, earlier editions are equally relevant.
